He is very, very insecure.”Roach has made no secret of the fact his fighter’s upcoming bout against Mayweather is the biggest day of his life. Defeating the 47-0 pound-for-pound champion would undoubtedly be the biggest scalp in Roach’s Hall of Fame career — and he’s doing everything he can to find a way to win. Roach has been poring over film of Mayweather’s previous fights to find any chinks in his armour. He thinks he has. The only question mark is whether Pacquiao has the ruthless edge to expose them. Roach has noticed Mayweather doesn’t respond well to getting cut during a fight.
His defensive ability as a fighter is without peer, so it’s not often he’s tagged by his opponent. But there have been occasions — most notably in Mayweather’s rough-and-tumble clash against Marcos Maidana last year — where Mayweather’s cut man Rafael Garcia has been kept busy. Roach sees it as a key to victory but worries Pacquiao’s conversion to evangelical Christianity has removed his killer instinct in the ring. I want to get inside his head a little bit,” Roach said. He’s not a secure person. He’s very fragile. He’s really insecure. You can tell by the way he lives. The money, the cars, the houses. I’ve seen that before in boxing. He’s on the road to disaster.”
